Police Accountability

John has helped pull together a group of people concerned about policing issues in Toronto. There is not nearly enough public debate about police policy. Many politicians and other community leaders feel intimidated by police leaders who are very critical of anyone who voices an opinion about policing matters. The Toronto Police Accountability Coalition has attempted to raise various policing issues before the Toronto Police Service Board and before Toronto City Council, including such matters as strip searches, the independent review of complaints, racial profiling, video surveillance, police budgetting, the politicla involvement of police, and so forth.

More information on the activities of TPAC may be found at www.tpac.ca. TPAC publishes a free monthly Bulletin concerning police issues in Toronto. Past copies of the Bulletin are archived on the web site. The site also contains instructions for subscribing to the Bulletin.
